An all-out slugfest erupted as the Winter Festival dodgeball competition descended on Queenstown yesterday afternoon.

Balls were sent rocketing through the air as 32 teams battled it out in the knockout competition at the specially erected Earnslaw Park Dodgeball Arena.

Training for the event showed creativity as the teams of four arrived as weird and wacky characters, including Mexicans, '80s skiers, ninjas, chefs, fairies and zombies.

Paranormal Propaganda team member Matt Smith said his team's zombie costumes were meant to cause fear.''

We're back from the dead to defeat all of the living,'' he said.

As the balls began to fly, teams were slowly knocked out until only two remained.

The grand final saw The Fixers take on The Flaming Kiwis in a three-game match, with the Kiwis earning the title of dodgeball champions.''

Its been a strict regime of eat, sleep, dodgeball for the last month,'' Kiwis team member Chris Thompson said. Programme highlights
