Frankton to get dental clinic

A state of the art dental clinic for children will be built on the Lakes District Hospital site at Frankton within the next two years.

Southern District Health Board public health specialist oral health services clinical leader Dr Tim Mackay said a project team was being established.

Ministry of Health funding had been received for a two-chair dental clinic, which was based on the projected population figures for the Wakatipu over the next 20 years.

The clinical staff would take part in the design of the new clinic which would come equipped with digital imaging equipment, enabling quick, easy diagnosis of a child's oral health.

''The clinic will enable access to dental care for young [pupils] and preschool children, with more focus on oral health education and prevention,'' Dr Mackay said.

''Good oral health and hygiene is an important part of general health.

''By supporting high quality oral health services for young people in our district, we are helping set them up for good health later in life,'' he said.
