Alleged ski thief runs into police car

An Australian tourist who bolted from a Queenstown bar with a pair of skis has run into the police - literally.

Senior Constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said the $1000 skis were being presented to the winner of a raffle at the Searle Lane and Social bar about 2am yesterday when a 20-year-old Adelaide man allegedly grabbed them and ran out of the bar.

As he exited the building on to Church St ''with the victim and a bouncer in hot pursuit'', the man ran into the side of a police car that was driving past.

He was arrested and charged with theft.
