The Cardrona community will discuss its options for a village green next week, after the Queenstown Lakes District Council failed in its bid to buy land for the project.
Five abandoned sections opposite the Cardrona Hotel had been earmarked by the council and the community for a village green in the Cardrona Valley Structure Plan.
However, the council's tender price offered for the land was too low and the sections were sold last month, by Harcourts, on behalf of the Public Trust, to developer and Cardrona Valley farmer Lane Hocking.
Deputy mayor Lyal Cocks said at the time the council had other land options it could consider for the village green.
He has since met Cardrona Valley Residents and Ratepayers Society chairman Barrie Morgan and the pair have agreed to discuss the options further at a meeting of the society next Tuesday evening.
The Wanaka Community Board's Cardrona community liaison, Mike O'Connor, will also attend the meeting.
The community was still ''very disappointed'' the council had not managed to buy the land, ''but these things happen'', Mr Morgan said yesterday.
The society hoped to meet Mr Hocking soon to find out what his plans were for the sections.
''And we're looking at other options at the moment. We can't really go into details but we've still got some plans.''
While securing land for the village green would be the priority topic for discussion at next week's meeting, a proposed children's playground in the village and a planned cycle track to Wanaka were also on the agenda, Mr Morgan said.
