Ticketed after 'low-speed pursuit'

Two Chinese nationals have been ticketed after a ''low-speed pursuit'' near Queenstown.

A complaint about a convoy of four campervans reportedly being driven poorly resulted in one of the drivers being ticketed for failing to stop, Southern District Command Centre deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Dave Scott said.

Police located the convoy about 6.15pm and when the police vehicle's lights and siren were activated, the campervan drivers continued travelling along Frankton Rd, Snr Sgt Scott said.

The pursuit, which reached a speed of about 40kmh, lasted about three minutes before the campervan drivers pulled over.

''It didn't seem malicious. It was more a lack of understanding of New Zealand law,'' he said.

A 43-year-old woman who spoke limited English was ticketed for failing to stop and was forbidden from driving, Snr Sgt Scott said.

A man was ticketed for failing to keep left and was also forbidden from driving.

The group is due to leave New Zealand today.
