Seven charged after fights

Queenstown police charged seven men with various offences after a bar brawl and two street fights in the resort at the weekend.

Officers were called to Winnies bar in the Mall shortly before 1am on Saturday as patrons allegedly battled with doormen.

Four men from Dunedin were arrested.

''There was a melee on the dance floor and security have intervened and allegedly been assaulted,'' Sergeant Kate Pirovano said.

Two Dunedin men (25 and 22) were charged with assault with intent to injure while another two (both 22) were charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence.

And at 4.15am yesterday, a Queenstown man was allegedly kicked in the head and punched by two other men during a fight at the Camp St taxi rank.

One man (22) faces a charge of injuring with intent, while another (20) has been charged with assault with intent to injure.

''You don't like to see any violence at all; even a punch can lead to serious consequences, but when people are kicked in the head that's very concerning,'' Sgt Pirovano said.

Officers also charged another Queenstown man (26) with assault, resisting arrest and breaching bail after an incident in the Mall at 2.23am yesterday.
