Meeting on town centre change

An extraordinary meeting of the Queenstown Lakes District Council to consider Plan Change 50 will start the notification process, chief executive Adam Feeley says.

The council proposed the change in July, to rezone about 13ha of council-owned and private land as Queenstown town centre zone.

Mr Feeley said Thursday's meeting would focus on a section 32 (evaluation) report and assessment of effects.

''We're asking councillors to consider, based on the report, authorising the plan change.''

The meeting would not set a date for formal notification of Plan Change 50, as more work would need to be done on the section 32 report.

The land, which is zoned high density residential, includes the mainly council-owned Lakeview site, which it is investigating for a $60m convention centre.

It also includes privately-owned land between Lakeview and the CBD.

The meeting will be held at the council chambers following the conclusion of property sub-committee and resource consent commissioner appointment committee meetings.
