A Queenstown woman is on a mission to locate about 15kg of medical supplies within the next week, destined for Nepalese hospitals.

SBS business development manager Honor Mathieson, also a member of Pure NRG Queenstown, the new Rotary group in Queenstown, will leave the resort next Friday for a six-week holiday to Nepal and India.

Having previously travelled to Africa and Asia, Miss Mathieson said she was aware of how ''dire'' the situation was in Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world.

''I just thought it would be quite nice since I'm going over there to do something for a good cause ... I just want to help the kids in some way.''

After contacting the Rotary district governor for Nepal, Miss Mathieson said she was given a list of medical supplies hospitals required.

Those included gauze, bandages, scalpels, syringes, scissors and gloves, along with catheters, IV cannulas and IV sets, oxygen masks and a portable autoclave machine - a steam steriliser.

Miss Mathieson had since contacted the Lakes District Hospital, medical centres and physiotherapists in the resort to see if there was any equipment they could give, with a Pure NRG Queenstown event tomorrow night also raising money to purchase items.

The event, at Pog Mahones, will feature guest speaker Steve Gurney, an adventurer, inventor, motivational speaker and and nine-time Coast to Coast winner, who will look at ''finding your purpose on this planet''.

Miss Mathieson said she hoped to take about 15kg of supplies over, along with old clothes and tramping boots to be donated to those in need, with plans to continue fundraising to send other equipment over.

Anyone with medical equipment could contact Miss Mathieson through the Queenstown branch of SBS.
