Queenstown's Honor Mathieson is overwhelmed by the donations of medical supplies and other items for Nepal.

Last week, the Otago Daily Times reported Miss Mathieson, a member of Pure NRG Queenstown, a new youth Rotary group, wanted to gather 15kg of medical supplies to deliver to Nepalese hospitals while on holiday.

Following the article, she said she had been inundated with donations, including knitted hats made by Dunedin woman Agnes Olsen, and birthing sheets.

Items had also been provided by the Lakes District Hospital, Queenstown Medical Centre, Queenstown Physio, Back on Track Physio, Pog Mahones, Pure NRG Queenstown, Orphans Aid International and several residents.

In total, about 20kg of medical supplies and other items had been collected.

Fundraising meant other items would be posted over in due course and two Queenstown-based nurses, also heading to Nepal in the coming months, would take further deliveries, she said.

Miss Mathieson will leave for Nepal tomorrow.
