Director clarifies Good Group's history

Queenstown hospitality operator Good Group Ltd in 2012 divested itself of interests in three Wanaka bars that in July were put in the hands of receivers.

A director and chief executive of Good Group Ltd, Russell Gray, contacted the Otago Daily Times to clarify his company's history in

Wanaka bars Barluga and Woodys, and the restaurant Botswana Butchery, which operated out of the Post Office Lane development in Ardmore St.

Mr Gray said Good Group had had no involvement in the Wanaka bars since divesting its interests in the three businesses in 2012. Later that year, the company closed the Wanaka Botswana Butchery restaurant, removing branding and branded chattels.

Good Group then sold the lease of the premises, but not the Botswana Butchery name or business, along with Barluga and Woodys to Southern Lakes Bars Ltd.

''Good Group Ltd extinguished all its debts and liabilities associated with these businesses at the time of sale, as is normal business practice.''

Good Group and Botswana Butchery no longer had an association with the Wanaka businesses other than being a previous tenant in the development, Mr Gray said.

The company's remaining businesses continued to trade as normal.

It was reported on Saturday that receivers had determined six companies associated with three Wanaka bars and three bars elsewhere in New Zealand owed creditors at least $3.9 million.

The companies in receivership are Consolidated Holdings, Brae Court Investments, Lake Front Entertainment, Taupo Quay Pub, Post Office Lane Bars and Festival Developments.
