Wanaka artist Andi Regan's Kahu Kereru design took third place in the South Pacific section at the World of WearableArt awards show in Wellington on Friday.

It is made from over 20,000 hand-dyed plastic cable ties woven together to create the feathers of the New Zealand wood pigeon.

Ms Regan could not be reached for comment yesterday, but said earlier the intention of her design was to draw attention to the importance of the kereru in New Zealand today.

Kahu Kereru was Ms Regan's fifth entry in the WOW competition since 2010 and was the first time she had received a section award.
