Drunken 'Spider-Man' warned

Police have appealed to people to stop drunken friends climbing on to buildings, after another incident in Queenstown.

A 23-year-old Wellington man was caught scaling a downtown shop premises at 2am on Saturday, Sergeant Tracy Haggart, of Queenstown, said.

The man was taken to Queenstown police station for detoxification and given a warning after climbing The Mall's Country Road shop.

''He thought he was Spider-Man and climbed up to one of the windows,'' Sgt Haggart said.

''It's not a healthy thing to do when your decision-making process is shot by alcohol.''

She urged people to look after their friends and stop them doing such silly acts.

''You can still have fun, but things like climbing buildings and jumping into freezing water can have very serious consequences.''

Several people have died after falling from balconies and the outside of buildings in the resort in recent years.
