After a record-breaking effort for the annual Pink Ribbon appeal last year, the organiser of the 2014 Arrowtown appeal is aiming for a record again this weekend.

Julie Hughes said Arrowtown raised the most money for a small town in New Zealand in 2013, just over $4000.

On Friday and Saturday the town would once again turn pink, but there would be just as much focus this year on fundraising as on raising awareness.

''Locally there's been a young 21-year-old recently diagnosed, who has a small child - they thought it was mastitis.

''Anyone can be affected - it doesn't matter the age.

''We all have to be aware of the changes in our bodies and look after our health,'' Mrs Hughes said.

Along with the annual street appeal, a special fundraiser will be held at Dorothy Browns Cinema on Friday night, which will show The Other Woman.

Mrs Hughes said tickets cost $25, with all proceeds going to the charity. Drinks and canapes will be available.

''I thought it would be a great movie to have,'' she said.

''It's just a fun girls' night out - it's an excuse to get everybody together, come along and support breast cancer ... you really need your girlfriends around you if anything like this happens.''
