Car-nival school fundraiser on this weekend

All the fun of a fair will be combined with a car show in Queenstown this Saturday at Remarkables Primary School's Car-nival.

The event, organised with the Queenstown Car Club, was held for the first time last year.

Owners of cars and motorbikes will have their prized possessions on display at the school grounds, alongside emergency services vehicles.

RPS spokeswoman Tracey Pederson said the police, in conjunction with Plunket, would be bringing a seat belt simulator to the event.

Children could be belted into a device which would simulate a car crash, reinforcing the importance of seat belts.

Also on display would be the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust helicopter, giving the public a chance to see the inner workings of the helicopter, used for search and rescue operations, medical evacuations and at accidents.

There would be activities for children, including Orb Balls, mini jeeps and pony rides.

Ms Pederson said funds raised this year would be put towards playground improvements and performing arts resources.

The Car-nival will be held from 10am to 2pm. Entry is via a gold coin donation.
