Chair smashed over man's head in brawl

Two men are in police custody after a fracas in downtown Queenstown early yesterday, during which a chair was smashed over a man's head.

Senior Constable Sean Drader said police were called to Athol St just after midnight after reports of fighting.

One of the men, a 17-year-old Queenstown resident, was arrested at home later in the morning, Snr Const Drader said.

The man told police that after drinking at bars around town, he got into an argument with another man in Cow Lane. The argument ‘‘continued across town'' and broke out again in Athol St.

The second man (22) was also arrested. Both were charged with fighting in a public place, and will appear in court on Monday.
