Footpath work due soon

Widening the footpath outside Queenstown burger bar Fergburger will get under way soon.

Queenstown Lakes District Council chief engineer Ulrich Glasner said a concept design had been signed off between the council and the Shotover St business and, although the project's exact start date would depend on the availability of contractors, work was due to begin this month.

Expected to take up to three weeks to complete, the project would affect road and pedestrian traffic, but disruption would be ''kept to a minimum''.

The widening is intended to ease congestion outside Fergburger and sister business Fergbaker, which is expected to get worse when a third business, the Mrs Ferg ice cream parlour, opens late next month.

Mr Glasner confirmed the project's cost would be within the $100,000 offered by Fergburger to pay for it.
