The public will have its first opportunity to walk over the 100ha commercial, recreational and residential development known as Three Parks on the outskirts of Wanaka today.

Developer Allan Dippie said work was now moving ''full steam'' ahead at Three Parks.

Queenstown Lakes District Council staff and councillors will be on site, along with project managers for the Wanaka Sports Facility - which is to be built at Three Parks - and staff from Mr Dippie's company, Willowridge Developments Ltd.

The sports facility site is expected to be of particular interest to the public.

''We'll get all that pegged out so people can see the extent of it and where it is in relation to the development.''

Mr Dippie said the centre would be ''right in the centre of town''.

''There's going to be a lot of development out that southern end so Three Parks of course is going to be quite a central location ... for Wanaka in the future.''

Today's public viewing session runs from 4pm until 7pm.
