Burglary charge follows beer spill

ABOUT 10,000 litres of beer were spilled in an incident at the Wanaka Beerworks premises at Wanaka Airport early yesterday.  A 52-year-old Wanaka man had been charged with burglary in relation to the incident, and was likely to appear in the Queenstown District Court in the next few days, Detective Bryan Gillespie, of Wanaka, said yesterday.

Other damage was also done to the property and to an adjoining business.

Det Gillespie said police were conducting further inquiries.

Jabberwocky Brewery, which recently bought the Wanaka Beerworks, emailed customers and suppliers yesterday, asking them to inform the company

if they had received any ‘‘out of the ordinary'' emails or calls from the company. A spokeswoman declined to comment further.

Jabberwocky Brewery is owned by Ruenell and Michael Wing, of Clyde, and Paul Beat-tie, of Alexandra.
