Police officer transferred

The unnamed Wanaka police officer suspended on full pay since mid-December has been transferred to another police position in the southern district.

An employment investigation was carried out over many months into an internal matter involving the sworn staff member, who had been based at the Wanaka police station.

Otago Rural relieving area commander Inspector Olaf Jensen confirmed this week that staff member was no longer suspended and has been transferred.

He said the matter was between employee and employer and was not a criminal matter.

''For privacy reasons, we are therefore unable to comment in detail on the circumstances or outcome.

"We can, however, confirm that this matter has now been concluded.''

Insp Jensen said as an organisation, police were committed to ensuring its staff always acted professionally and upheld the trust and confidence of communities.

''We would like to reassure the public that where concerns are raised about the conduct of our staff, these matters are responded to quickly and dealt with according to the standard employment processes and the police code of conduct.''
