Wakatipu garden lovers will have an opportunity to see some of the district's finest gardens at their peak next month.

Wakatipu Plunket is hosting its fourth annual Garden Tour on December 6. The tour includes two gardens listed by the New Zealand Gardens Trust.

Janet Blair's 5.5ha garden near Lake Hayes, which is the only one in the district classified by the trust as a garden of national significance, has been included in the tour for the first time.

Mike Henry's garden at Lower Shotover, Chantecler, which is also listed by the trust, borrows inspiration from international styles, including French, English, Tuscan and Asian. It is also where ticket holders will get to enjoy a Devonshire tea.

Wakatipu Plunket president Juliet Eckford said the self-drive tour was the highlight of its fundraising calendar.

Plunket only received government funding for its clinical nurses, so it relied on community donations for its classes and other services.

''The garden tour helps us raise essential funds that will mean we can keep on providing our full range of services for families with children aged under 5 in the Wakatipu region.

''We hope this year's tour will be the best yet.''

• Wakatipu Plunket Garden Tour, December 6, 10am to 4pm. Tickets $30 each, on sale at Plunket, Harcourts and BNZ's town and Remarkables Park branches.
