Crash driver improving

The Cardrona Valley man seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash near Luggate which killed his partner is out of intensive care.

Farmer and musician Jamie Robertson (62) was the driver of a grey Ford Falcon which left the road and rolled at Queensberry, 3km south of Luggate, on February 1.

Mr Robertson's partner, Rosemary Margaret Lamb (54), was the only passenger in the vehicle and died at the scene of the accident.

Mr Robertson was flown from the scene to Dunedin Hospital with serious head, chest and back injuries, including possible spinal fractures.

He was initially in a serious condition in intensive care, where it is understood he was in an induced coma.

However, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday Mr Robertson was ''progressing favourably'' in an orthopaedic ward.

Police said the investigation into what caused the crash was still ongoing.
