Festival of Colour ticket sales record for first day

The organisers of the 2015 Southern Lakes Festival of Colour have reported record first-day ticket sales for the 10th anniversary of the event.

Tickets for all shows in the April 21 to 27 festival went on sale at 8am yesterday.

Festival general manager Lindsey Schofield said organisers were ''delighted'' the programme was proving so popular already.

''Initial feedback from ticket buyers is that they like the wide variety of shows and the top-class performers we're bringing to the region from within New Zealand and around the world.

"People also seem to have a few more dollars in their pockets to spend this year, which is encouraging for the arts scene in general.''

The most popular shows were the Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir, Rodger Fox Big Band, Knee Deep circus and the Hard Road and the Ballad of Backbone Joe musical performances.

Two additional shows of The Bookbinder and Anzac Eve at the Wanaka Masonic Lodge have been added to the festival programme to cope with demand.

Festival shows take place in Wanaka, Queenstown, Bannockburn, Luggate and Hawea.
