Tenants named for rec precinct

Queenstown's $50 million recreation precinct is taking shape and a tenant for another building has been confirmed.

Dunedin firm Chipmunks has confirmed it will open one of its children's play centres in a planned $6 million building at Remarkables Park, Frankton.

The 3000sq m building in Hawthorne Dr will also house a Clip'N Climb rock-climbing centre, indoor snowboard centre, trampolining centre, 3-D golf simulator and boutique gym.

Building owner James Hennessy says his Willow Place Family Trust intends to open three buildings in the same road this year.

''It's going to be a recreation precinct out there with lots of different activities. It's a great area of town,'' he said.

The trust also has plans for a fourth next year, and possibly a cinema complex down the line.

Porter Group's Remarkables Park Ltd is also understood to be at an advanced stage of negotiations with an indoor skydiving operator over a $9 million facility to complement the planned convention centre, hotels, offices and more retail.

Construction is nearing completion on the first of the trust's buildings, which will house Highlands Motorsport Park owner Tony Quinn's kart centre and laser tag.

Land-use consent is expected to be granted in the next few days for the second building, with resource consent following shortly.

The tenants could begin trading as soon as July.

Chipmunks' marketing manager Elaine Russell said: ''We'll put in our brand-new design to Queenstown - a model we've been rolling out across Australia.

It's an interactive playground experience but also with our signature equipment, like mega inflatable slides, that the kids love and adults wish they could go on.''
