$20,000 for charity

This year's Challenge Wanaka event raised just over $20,000 for Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand, a result the organisation has called ''outstanding'', with donations more than double that of 2014.

The money will be used to administer the organisation's ''Breath4CF'' portfolio, aimed at assisting with exercise equipment and sporting activities.

Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand chief executive Belinda Burnett said being aligned with Challenge Wanaka was a real boost to the small charity, which looked after the needs of the 450 people in New Zealand with cystic fibrosis.

''We want to express our sincere gratitude to all the athletes who helped raise funds in this year's Challenge Wanaka event.''

Challenge Wanaka race director, Victoria Murray-Orr, said the race was happy to be partnering with Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand again next year.

''We are incredibly fortunate that we are able to swim, bike, and run in this stunning part of the world but those with cystic fibrosis don't have that option.''

Challenge Wanaka is New Zealand's largest annual triathlon festival featuring more than 2000 athletes. The 2016 Challenge Wanaka will take place on February 20.
