'Great way to start the season'

All snow guns are blazing on the Treble Cone Skifield as the field prepares for 2015 opening day tomorrow.

A skier is pictured making tracks in the Home Basin.

''TC'' got 65cm of snow at the top of the home basin in one 24-hour period late last week, and marketing and sales manager Nick Noble told the Otago Daily Times continuing low temperatures had been ideal for snow-making.

Snow-making was focused on the lower mountain trails although Mr Noble said there was snow well down the mountain.

''It's a great way to start the season. We'll be able to have everything going right from the start.

''It really does look good - it looks better currently than it often looks in August.''

About 150 of the skifield's 180 staff have been training on the field.

Mr Noble said the access road was covered by ''a lot of snow'' last week but had been graded, and while chains would have to be carried tomorrow, the amount of ice on the road, or further snow, would dictate whether they needed to be fitted.

While the base building was ready to go, Mr Noble said a new cafe being built further up the mountain would not be open during the first few days of the season.
