Man 'threw TV from resort motel balcony'

An Invercargill man was charged with wilful damage after allegedly throwing a TV from a Queenstown motel balcony into a busy road.

The 23-year-old is accused of launching the set from the second floor of the Lake Esplanade motel shortly after 8pm on Saturday.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the TV crashed down into the road in front of an incoming car.

Sgt Watt said: "He said he wanted to see how far he could throw it.

"It nearly collided with an oncoming car and the driver then ran over this TV that had appeared spontaneously in front of him."

The Invercargill man is due to appear in Queenstown District Court on Monday, July 6.
