Travel Channel host Bert Kreischer has described Queenstown as one of his favourite places.

The American stand-up comedian visited the resort when filming Trip Flip: A Hobbit Adventure in Middle Earth which will air on the Travel Channel this weekend.

The programme will feature activities around Queenstown including a visit to Amisfield Winery, a helicopter ride to The Lord of the Rings locations and eating a Fergburger.

It was his first trip to New Zealand and he said he was impressed.

''[It is] easily one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my entire life ... In a parallel universe I will live in Queenstown and make microbrewed root beer with a big dog, a beautiful wife and a large Kiwi family,'' he quipped.

The show also features the Waitomo Caves, Hobbiton and a tour around Sir Peter Jackson's special effects company in Wellington.

Trip Flip: A Hobbit Adventure in Middle Earth screens on the Travel Channel (Sky 25) this Saturday at 6.30pm.

It will broadcast to more than 130 territories, drawing a potential audience of up to 200 million.
