Stolen vehicle recovered in damaged condition

Queenstown police are investigating the theft of a vehicle in the resort.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka believes the thieves were opportunists and said such incidents were rare in the town.

A Subaru was stolen from Park St, possibly early on Sunday morning.

It was located by police on the corner of Malaghans Rd and Littles Rd yesterday morning with some damage to the exterior.

The owner of the vehicle had not reported the car missing and was unaware of the incident until contacted by police.

A second vehicle was also found with crash damage near the Coronet Peak junction.

This car had not been reported stolen but police intended to speak to the owners to see whether the incidents might be linked.

In a separate incident, a Subaru Legacy was broken into on Robins Rd on Sunday night.

A snowboard and gloves were stolen.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward but they did not believe the two crimes were linked.
