Glenorchy-based paraglider Nick Neynens back on terra firma moments after crossing the finish line of the 2015 Red Bull X-Alps in Monaco last Thursday.

The 33-year-old travelled a straight-line distance of 1038km over six countries - as well as Europe's highest mountains - through a combination of cross-country flying, hiking and camping.

Neynens had already made history by becoming the first New Zealander to be accepted into the race, described as the Olympics of paragliding.

However, he topped that by being named Sportsman of the Event after overcoming a bad start that left him at the back of the field to finish ninth out of 32 competitors.

On average only 12% of competitors finish the event.
