Weekend disorder keeps Queenstown police busy

Police made 11 arrests in Queenstown over the weekend for low-level street disorder including fighting.

Two Christchurch men, aged 33 and 26, were stopped in Cow Lane at 3.20am, Sunday, after they were identified as the main offenders in a "reasonably large scale disorder".

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the men had an altercation in a bar and it continued on the street. They were both given pre-charge warnings.

Three Australian tourist, aged 22, 28 and 25, who were "pushing and shoving" with security staff outside Fergburger at 2.15am on Saturday, were also pre-charged warned. No punches were thrown in the melee.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, an 18-year-old man was also arrested and pre-charged warned after an altercation in a bar spilled outside. He continued his aggressive behaviour outside and was restrained by doormen until the police arrived.

Officers did charge a 21-year-old Queenstown student after he allegedly punched a bouncer in the head. He'd been refused entry to a bar in The Mall, at 12.30am, Sunday. Police say he was obnoxious when they arrived. He is due in court this morning.

Other arrests included possession of cannabis, disorderly behaviour for a 19-year-old Queenstown man who tried to get into a police van, more disorderly behaviour, and wilful damage.
