Police said they had launched a search for Queenstown man Jack Nicholson, 23, who was last seen around 1.30am yesterday, and later reported as missing to police.
Police said subsequent police enquiries have given them reason to be concerned for his safety.
Mr Nicholson left his Queenstown home, in driving a grey-coloured 1992 Nissan Pulsar with the registration TJ8053 early yesterday morning.
Inquiries have revealed Mr Nicholson was potentially heading towards Alexandra.
Police said they would like to speak to anyone who had spoken to, or seen Mr Nicholson, over the past day.
They also asked members of the public to keep an eye out for his car.
