Drink driving cases irk police

Police are expressing disappointment after picking up four alleged drink drivers in Queenstown over the weekend.

Police Southern District Command Centre Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said three of the drivers were stopped on Frankton Rd on Saturday - at 12.15am, 7am and 11.50pm.

Two were local men aged in their 30s - one of whom had a breath alcohol reading of more than 600mcg - and the other was a 50 year old New Zealand resident.

At 1.20am yesterday, a car was pulled over on Arthurs Point Rd after it was allegedly spotted swerving across the roadway, Snr Sgt Brown said.

Snr Sgt Brown said the car was driven by a 32 year old Australian man who had a breath alcohol level of more than 650mcg.

The man is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

Queenstown police also dealt with several other weekend incidents.

At 1am on Saturday, four men aged in their early 20s were arrested for fighting in Queenstown Mall. Snr Sgt Brown said the four men were issued pre charge warnings.

Another pre charge warning was handed out to a 20 year old Queenstown man at 4am yesterday after he allegedly fought with an unknown person in Searle Lane.

Meanwhile, at 2am yesterday, a heavily intoxicated 20 year old Dunedin student was arrested for disorderly behaviour after allegedly being involved in an altercation at Shotover St bar Loco Queenstown earlier on Saturday evening.
