Man's drug honesty costs him NZ entry in Queenstown

A British man who told a Customs officer he had used drugs and may do so again was one of two ''immigration turnarounds'' at Queenstown Airport.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown police, said the 24-year-old made the remarks after arriving on a flight from Australia.

''He admitted to using cannabis and MDMA, and said that if he was offered the opportunity, he would smoke drugs again.''

He was held in police custody and put on the next available flight to Australia.

A 28-year-old Brazilian woman was also refused entry over ''visa and work status'' issues.

She spent a night in the police station cell and was expected to return to Australia yesterday.
