Dame Trelise Cooper's Wanaka fashion show appears to have been a hit, raising more than $40,000 for a planned hospice in the town.

The ''Theatre of Fashion'' event, featuring Dame Trelise's designs, was held at the Glendhu Station woolshed on Wednesday night in front of more than 600 people.

Dame Trelise attended the matinee and evening shows.

The woolshed was decorated with both paper and real flowers with a 1950s theme.

Dame Trelise described her Trelise Cooper Summer 15/16 collection featured as ''a daydream of angelic filigrees, weightless lace and broderie anglaise''.

She was thrilled with the event's success.

''I am so blown away by the huge support for the hospice and interest for the Trelise Cooper Theatre of Fashion. Thank you to all the people who bought tickets to support this fundraiser.''

Theatre of Fashion was staged as a fundraiser for the Upper Clutha Hospice Trust and arranged by Wanaka fashion store owner Lucy Lucas.

Mrs Lucas, who lost her mother to cancer two years ago, said she was amazed by the interest in and support for the event and grateful to Dame Trelise for her involvement.

She estimated $25,000 was raised through ticket sales and an auction of donated big-ticket items brought in $16,500.

''It has been an absolute honour to host Dame Trelise in Wanaka ... This has been a fantastic show for an extremely good cause and I'm delighted to help raise money for the hospice, which is an important community asset.''

Trust chairman Russell McGeorge said the show was the major 2015 fundraiser for the Upper Clutha Hospice Trust and it was ''enormously grateful'' to all who contributed and helped put on the show.

The timing of the event was appropriate, as the earthmoving work for the foundations of the Aspiring Enliven facility, in which the trust's palliative and respite care suite would be located, were scheduled to start within days, he said.

Mr McGeorge anticipated the suite would be available for use by this time next year.
