Strong westerly winds brought a tree down on State Highway 6 near Wanaka Airport this afternoon, causing delays for motorists.

Some of the motorists, including a few with chainsaws, set to work to clear the tree.

Other trees in the row also appeared to be at risk from the winds.

The road has just reopened after scores of cars were held up for about half an hour.
