Two cyclists were taken to Lakes District Hospital following a crash with a motorcycle on the Crown Range, about six kilometres south of Cardrona, early this afternoon.

The two male cyclists, part of a German group touring the South Island, were heading for Queenstown.

They were hit on a bend by a motorcycle heading for Wanaka.

Constable Aubury Martin, of Wanaka, said it appeared the motorcycle, carrying two people, had ''fallen over'', crossed the road and ''taken out'' the two cyclists.

The crash caused a build up of traffic several kilometres long in either direction.
