The family of Andre Trotter, who died in a car crash at Momona, near Dunedin Airport, on Friday night, have paid tribute to their ''much loved son and brother''.

Mr Trotter's parents, Pauline and John Trotter, own Lime Tree Lodge in Ballantyne Rd, Wanaka.

In a statement, they described their son as a keen sportsman involved in hunting, fishing, kite-boarding, rugby and wake-boarding.

''He had the ability to light up the room with his great sense of humour, cheeky grin and he always had a continuous positive attitude.

''A wide network of friends throughout the country will thoroughly miss him.

''He has left a gap in many people's lives which will never be filled.''

Mr Trotter (25) was the sole occupant of a car which rolled about 9.30pm.

No other car was involved.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
