Fire hoses proved a hit with the youngsters at Sunday's Fernhill Family Fun Day in Queenstown.
Zoe Deering (10) was one of those shown the ropes by resort firefighter Steve Gallagher.
Organiser Emily Moore said more than 300 people attended the event, which raised $2000 towards community projects, such as adding a shelter to the Fernhill Rd park barbecue.
A helicopter lolly drop and giant slip-and-slide were also popular with children and adults on the day.
