A 5m-long predicament almost affected preparations for this weekend's New Zealand Rural Games in Queenstown.

Two weeks out from the annual event's opening day on Saturday, this caber, which is used in the ‘‘heavies'' competition, was stranded in Dunedin.

Fortunately, Games patrons Tony and Amanda Chapman were in the process of moving their effects from Dunedin to Omarama.

‘‘When there's something to do, you get on and help out,'' Mr Chapman said.

The caber, accompanied by the Chapmans' furniture, made its way to Omarama. Mr Chapman, pictured checking the former tree, accompanied it on the final leg to the Queenstown Recreation Ground on Tuesday.
