QLDC planner against watersports base

The idea of putting a watersports facility on the Lake Wanaka foreshore should be rejected, according to Queenstown Lakes District Council planner Sarah Picard.

In a report for the independent commissioners, due to hear an application from the Wanaka Watersports Facility Trust later this month, Ms Picard says the building's adverse visual effects had the potential to be significant.

The building would cater for rowers and lake swimmers.

Approximately two thirds of 1042 public submissions have opposed the building, on the Roys Bay recreation reserve east of Stoney Creek.
