A man who stole a NZ Courier Post van in Cromwell yesterday was stopped by police and arrested near Twizel without further incident.
The 61-year-old appeared in the Oamaru District Court charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle and one driving offence.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said the man, from the ‘‘upper South Island'', was stopped by police about 7.45am.
Police were alerted to the theft of the yellow Toyota Hiace van about 6.20am.
He was released on bail and was due to reappear in court on March 2.
