A new figure is gracing the grounds of the Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village.

A steel silhouette sculpture of local cowboy Pat McCarthy, of Hawea Flat, was revealed to village residents yesterday.

Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village co-owner Dee Gordon said she commissioned the work because the grounds had been used for both rodeo and pony clubs.

"It continues the history of the place''.

Mr McCarthy was her "best pony club boy'' and she was pleased he was featuring on the grounds again.

Artist Shaun Burdon, of Bendigo, said the 20mm thick work took months to plan, but a plasma cutter made assembly very quick.

Mr McCarthy, who would only say he was "close to 70'', said seeing himself in steel form was "quite special''.

"I was quite chuffed to be asked.‘‘I am just very very pleased to be involved.''

Mr McCarthy estimated he had spent 40 years competing in rodeo on the grounds, and joked he would be there for much longer now.
