Chance to take Aston Martin for spin on ice

Potential clients of Aston Martin will have a chance to try out the British sports car manufacturer's product on ice this winter.

Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds general manager Shaun Gilbertson confirmed to the Otago Daily Times yesterday six of the British sports cars would be at the grounds, on the Pisa Range above Cardrona, this winter.

The cars, including the Vanquish, Vantage, Rapide and DB11 models, will be available to Aston Martin clients wanting to take them for a spin on ice.

Mr Gilbertson said the arrangement with Aston Martin was similar to the one the proving ground had last winter with Audi, which offers a day's ice and snow driving, accommodation and meals for $2500.

While bookings are made via the car company concerned, rather than the proving ground, Mr Gilbertson suggested the price of trying an Aston Martin on ice was likely to be ‘‘eye-watering''.

Mr Gilbertson said the Audi clients he had joined on the ice had a huge amount of fun, particularly when driving in reverse.

The traction control system did not work when the cars were in reverse, Mr Gilbertson said, and that allowed for some spectacular results.
