Almost 30 events will be packed into the five-day 2016 Arrowtown Autumn Festival, which begins on Thursday.

Co-ordinator Pip Norton said the reaction to the shortened festival, which had previously been held over 10 days, had been positive, with ‘‘something for everybody''.

Along with festival favourites, including the scarecrow competition, with categories for children, and the annual festival parade and market day, several events had been added, Ms Norton said.

Buskers over the age of 16 would compete on Thursday between 11am and 4pm on the Library Green, with judging between noon and 1.30pm, while children under 15 would have their turn at performing along Buckingham St between noon and 3pm on Friday, with judging at 3.30pm.

Winners would perform at Sunday's Pie, Pint and Pinot festival, to be held on the Library Green. Fifteen brewers would be represented, with pinot noir provided by Akarua and gourmet pies on offer from about nine businesses.

Saturday night would see a get-together at the ‘‘Denim & Diamonds Party'' in the Athenaeum Hall from 8pm.

Described as ‘‘Nashville meets Arrowtown'', ticket-holders would be entertained by LA Social, with supper provided by Mannmade Catering.

This year's festival ends on Anzac Day, with the service beginning at the Athenaeum Hall at 10am as part of the programme.

The event will conclude with the BYO Tea Dance, held for the first time last year, featuring the Queenstown Jazz Orchestra, the Remarkable Choir, Southern Nights, the Buckingham Belles, the Arrow Miners Band and the Arrow Entertainers.

The festival as a whole was ‘‘going to be amazing'', Ms Norton said.

‘‘It's going to be an absolutely fantastic autumn festival. I think the five days is really good; everybody's got on board with it.''
