Millions invested to make Treble Cone better

Treble Cone Skifield has released a list of improvements being made to the field before the start of the 2016 ski season on June 23.

General manager sales and marketing Nick Noble said this week the six-seater home basin express was being given a $1million upgrade.

This included the installation of a new electric drive and motor and new electrical controls.

He explained the upgrade would improve the reliability, efficiency and safety of the chairlift.

As well, two brand new Kassbohrer PistenBully grooming machines, valued at $500,000 each, were being imported from Germany.

Mr Noble said the upgrade of the two grooming machines would increase reliability of the "hard-working fleet'' and ensure the skifield could continue to deliver "long, wide groomed trails every night''.

A new "end-of-day'' barbecue outlet called the Family Chill Zone was being established to provide a new "child and parent-friendly'' indoor area for parents with infants and toddlers, away from the bustle of the cafes, Mr Noble said.

Additional daily transport services would also be offered between Wanaka and the skifield, Mr Noble said.

As well, Treble Cone had extended the season to include the first week of the Sep-tember-October school holi-days, with the closing day set for October 2.
