Night skiing event decision tomorrow

A decision on whether night skiing will start at Coronet Peak on Friday will probably be made tomorrow.

Queenstown Winter Festival director Lisa Buckingham said while festival organisers had moved all other on-mountain events to the Remarkables over the weekend, night skiing could not be relocated.

While Coronet Peak is open for snow tubing and sightseeing, it has been closed for skiing since last Thursday, leaving hundreds of NZSki staff on limited hours.

Coronet Peak manager Ross Copland said staff had been on rotation, with some picking up shifts at the Remarkables, also managed by NZSki.

While he described morale among employees as good, he said everyone was keeping their fingers crossed for a change in weather conditions.

There was a possibility snow guns could be fired on Thursday.

"But, it is totally weather-dependent and is hard to predict beyond a couple of days.

"We will keep re-evaluating it.''
