Another high-country station on the shores of Lake Hawea looks set to change hands.

Sotheby's International Realty Queenstown agent Matt Finnigan confirmed to the Otago Daily Times this week Lake Hawea Station was "under contract''.

He declined to provide details of the purchaser.

The 6373ha of freehold land is spread along 8km of the eastern shore of the lake with views to the Grandview Range.

It has been farmed by four generations of the Rowley family, at present Tom and Adrienne Rowley.

The station's website notes the property has been in the family since 1912.

Hunter Valley Station, on the other side of Lake Hawea, is also under contract and an American businessman's application to buy the property is under consideration by the Overseas Investment Office.

A spokesman for the OIO said yesterday it had received no application in respect of Lake Hawea Station.
