Balls were flying at the Dodgeball Championships yesterday afternoon in Queenstown.

Despite being defeated in 15 seconds flat, All Dodge No Balls kept their spirits high, agreeing that they should have got a prize for spending the shortest time in the arena.

"There's such an energy down here right now. Everybody looks hilarious and the dancing from the other teams is hilarious to watch,'' team captain Christina Schmitz, of the US, said.

As a warm-up before every game, each of the 31 teams did a short dance in the arena.

Losing aside, the four imports, who now live in Queenstown, said they had a ball.

Rachel Davidson, of England, said they bought their Hawaiian costumes from the $2 Shop because it was the cheapest option they could find.

Pirates, cats, builders and thugs were the costumes of choice for four of the other 31 teams entered in the Winter Festival event.

A knockout system was used to find the winner.

The winner of each game progressed to the next round.

Big Dodgeticules were crowned the 2016 dodgeball champions.

The Winter Festival finishes tomorrow.
