The main thoroughfare through the commercial part of the new Three Parks subdivision on the outskirts of Wanaka has been named after Sir Tim Wallis.

Developer Alan Dippie (left) and Sir Tim show off the new street sign yesterday.

Mr Dippie said the name was approved by the Queenstown Lakes District Council this week.

The drive, between Ballantyne Rd and State Highway 84, near Mt Iron, crosses land used in the 1960s by Sir Tim as an airstrip for his new venison recovery business.

The public will be able to use the drive from Thursday, when the new Wanaka Recreation Centre is officially opened.
