Queenstown police have appealed for witnesses after a man was headbutted early on Sunday.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked outside McDonald's, on Camp Street in the CBD, at 3am.

Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Watt said a local man was headbutted to the ground.

''He received two cuts to his eyebrows, one each side, and a cut to his lip.''

The man was treated at the scene by St John paramedics. His attacker ran off.

''We're calling for any witnesses in the area at the time to come forward,'' Acting Sen Sgt Seve Watt said.
